Adding Captions to Images
It would be nice if TypePad would make it easier for bloggers to add captions to images. I hope they can embed that feature in the customization of the image.

Inappropriate?that's a great idea - let me know if you see a blog out there, or have used some software, where you think it's intuitive.
You can do this with a bit of html, but having it be easier is the crux of the suggestion, if I'm hearing you correctly.
What photo service (if any) do you use most often?

Inappropriate?Thanks for considering the idea! I'm not sure if WordPress has that feature. For images in posts, I just upload them via TypePad, but for galleries and sets, I forward my visitors to my Flickr account. Actually, I'd like to build my own gallery via TypePad, but I think customization is limited or it needs to be in an advanced template. :)1 Comment

Inappropriate?I'm currently working on a gallery in advanced templates and searching for some creative ways to make it look interesting.
There are lots of cool ideas to improve upon already awesome features existing in typepad and hopefully this could one day become: point, click, create!
(perhaps with some style choices too)

Inappropriate?you can also set up your blog in Flickr, so that you can use the "blog this" button on individual photos. I like Flickr a lot, so using it for various pieces of my TypePad blog is fun. I've copied/pasted their HTML that they embed in a post to do captions sometimes, but you're right, there should be a better way.
There's some good badges and stuff too - I keep a badge of just one gallery in my sidebar.
The photo galleries feature in TypePad does seem in need of an update, but folks get really creative with pages and embeds. the culture of me immediately comes to mind as a great one, and we're working with him on some new ideas too.

Inappropriate?Good idea. For a long time blogs were compared to newspapers and magazines but one thing they are missing is image captions. No doubt it's complicated but it would be a real coup for Typepad to figure it out.

Inappropriate?I used to embed pictures from Flickr, and I still sometimes do with a big set, but I like them on the blog for backup/permanence purposes. It would be amazing if TP could read and display the caption off an uploaded JPEG, but for now, I just copy/paste below the picture when I upload it.

Inappropriate?I have been working with my church to help them understand blogging. Their website is built on WordPress. WordPress has the ability, with each uploaded photograph, to easily insert text with the photograph.

Inappropriate?Hello David, Wow that's great. Well, Typepad also have that ability, but basically, it depends on the user on how to find and use that ability. :) There are lots of cons and pros if we compare Typepad and Wordpress, but on general, Typepad is more user friendly :)

Inappropriate?Should really look at how easy wordpress is to add images and add captions etc. This is one of the major things I have found so far that lets typepad down compared to wordpress. If a similar solution was developed for typepad it would be great.

Inappropriate?We're beta testing our new blog on Typepad, but the lack of an easy way to add photo caption/credit may be a deal breaker for us. Seriously. If Wordpress can do it, why not Typepad? Without this capability, Typepad definitely is less user-friendly than Wordpress. I've used both, and find Wordpress easier.

Inappropriate?I am new to Typepad and am very surprised and disappointed at not being able to easily attach a caption to a photo. I am also finding the editor balky to work with in general, e.g., apparently you can preview a post itself but not the post as it will appear on the blog. I am still in the trial period so I may switch to Wordpress if it is easier to work with.

Inappropriate?Yes, yes, yes. As a photographer, I am using images in my posts a lot, and the inability to easily caption them - especially if they're wrapped to the right or left - is a huge issue for me. Please take this into strong consideration - I would love to see it implemented soon, as would me readers!

Now that WordPress and Blogger both support this, TypePad really needs to jump ship.
We are switching our blog from TypePad to Drupal, this issue being one of the key reasons. Sorry TypePad. You need to listen to what your customers want! -

Inappropriate?I wouldn't file easy picture captioning as a "nice to have." It's absolutely fundamental. I just searched the Knowledge Base for "caption," "picture," and every permutation thereof.
Nothing.
Appalling.
This is basic math, TypePad.
Get on it.

When you use the Insert Image tool to upload an image to your Post, the default behavior is for the text to wrap to the left of the photo.
You can disable this behavior by clicking Custom Settings and disabling Word Wrap. Then you can place text directly below the image or enter no text there.

To use Word Wrap and display a caption directly below the image, you would need to be familiar with HTML. Use the Insert Image tool to upload your image and set the Custom Settings to have Word Wrap disabled. Then click on the "Edit HTML" tab. This will show you the HTML for your Post.
Look for the image code, you'll be adding tags before and after it, like this:

Caption text is here
The image and the caption will be grouped together and placed to the left of your text. -
