Ray replied on February 08, 2010 21:29 to the question "Can you update Carousel when it's running?" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hey Patrick,
I'm assuming you mean will the players continue to work while you upgrade the server...
The answer is yes. While you upgrade the server the players should continue running off of their cache. If your server is also a player (solo) than you will need to quit the display engine on the server while running the upgrade.
I did the upgrade the other day, and it took me about 20 mins or so I think. You should allow for an hour or so (internet speed dependent) incase the installer needs to download anything such as .NET 3.5 installer
Hope this helps.

Lou,
That looks like a great start! Drop me an email so we can figure out how to communicate a little bit more effectively than the Forum.

Blast from the past....
I never did get around to doing what I said I was going to, but I've been busy :)
Got Married... Graduated College... Got a Job (w/ Tightrope) etc...
This topic is very timely though. We have begun adding the ability to create shows and schedule events (as well as producers and projects) through the SOAP interface, and we are working with the OpenMedia Project http://www.openmediaproject.org to integrate there system with cablecast.
With the new WebService features I do think the time is ripe for a standalone Cablecast module... I'll have to do some brainstorming on that.
As for my site and its speed, it changed a few weeks ago. The web site show records themselves are now synced (every two hours) with the Cablecast show records. This didn't have so much to do with speed as it did with the extra stuff we add. As you probably noticed the new site uses preview pictures and lots of VOD all generated automatically from our cablecast database, but we ran out of custom fields to store all the info we needed !
The schedule itself though is still pulled dynamically from Cablecast with every request. I haven't profiled those pages but I would imagine they aren't too much slower. This is probably because our cablecast machine and our web server are on the same local network, which all the soap calls are performed over, not over the internet.
Oh and that link at the top is outdated... although it still brings you to the right place. The new address is http://www.ctn5.org
So who wants to make a Drupal module !

Hello,
At first glance it looks like Cablecast is having trouble communicating with the Database. Have you tried restarting the Cablecast Server?
If that doesn't clear things up, please open a ticket with our support team so we can get this taken care of. You can open a ticket here:

Hi Marie,
To be honest I still having quite figured out the "downloads" part of github :)
Anyway what you really want are the nusoap.php file and the schedule.php file.
What you could do is click on these files and you'll see all the source code. Just above the source code there is a 'raw' link over to the right. If you click this link you should see plain text. In your broswer go to File -> Save As And wallah... you have the file.
Also you could right click 'raw' and choose "Save Link As..."

Good luck!

Hey Marie,
There is another thread here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/trms/topic...
which discusses the wordpress/RSS/Web Service thing.
If you are able to install the php_exec plugin:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/e...
you could copy/paste/modify some of my PHP code which can be found here:

Hi Jon,
Sorry for your issues. The SXHardwareControl was known to crash sometimes when it tried to playback incompatible files. Current versions are supposed to handle those files more gracefully, but it is possible that something snuck by.
The file that did not playback correctly, have you played that file before? Did it play back ok then? If you try forcing it out to a preview monitor, does it playback?
Also, are you up to date on your cablecast version?

I'm truly sorry that your disappointed.
Unfortunately PowerPoint is a moving target with a tremendous install base of a wide range of versions all with different quarks. We received many reports of incorrect processing and decided it was better to guide our customers to one common way of importing from Powerpoint, rather than extend the frustration.
We will continue to monitor the evolution of powerpoint, and if the waters change, I'm sure we will dive back in :)

Ray replied on January 28, 2010 16:01 to the question "Closed captioning data for MPEG-2 video files?" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hey David,
The SX video servers can play back Line 21 Closed Captioned embedded in a MPEG2 stream. I am uncertain about the .scc file though. I'll look into it and try to get back to you.
Another option is if you send out the video to be captioned you could capture via the SX encoder which would allow the playback of the captioning.

I don't have a video for that on hand, but I'll dig around and see if I can find it. In not, I'll add it to the list :)
However, here is a post where I walked through how do it using FCP and compressor.
