The only problem I have now is that when I try to delete 'routers' that I used in the past, I lose my wifi ability unless I sign out then back in. I have to do that after every router that I delete.

Just for shits and giggles there are 2 folders in my /lib/firmware folder, one called RTL8192E and RTL8192SU. The RTL8192E was created by me and contains the image files I downloaded. The other, RTL8192SU contains a file titled rtl8192sfw.bin. There is also a file called rtl8192s.bin in /lib/firmware.admin

The following post is what I followed:

Colin Milligan replied 1 month ago I finally had some success with my setup (N140, Realtek 8192E).

After applying the updates that came out earlier in the week I still had no wireless, but I looked in my logfiles (choose administration, then log file viewer) ...

Under messages, I came across this from the boot log:

rtl819xE 0000:02:00.0: firmware: requesting RTL8192E/boot.img

... it looks like the system was looking for some firmware files, and not finding them.

so I went on a hunt for the rtl8192 firmware and found this forum post:

... and eventually found the firmware as a zip (see msg #13 in the post above),

... then extracted the three img files to /lib/firmware/RTL8192E/

... then restarting and suddenly it was finding wireless networks.

Playing around with my router settings (specifically changing the wireless channel back to 1) eventually gave me a working connection.

Sorry if these instructions aren't perfect, I've tried so many things I stopped expecting to get it to work. Hopefully they will help some of you sort wireless out on your N140's."

Use Linux to extract the files and yes you need to be "root" to install the files. If you can't get the file email me murig@verizon.net and I'll send it to you. The file does contain instructions to install it – Mike Urig, on February 22, 2010 17:04

Here is what worked for me a month ago.

I believe the problem for the new Samsung N130 has been fixed. 3 files were missing and had to be installed into a folder that was missing also.

Solution:
As root, create a folder called RTL8192E in the /lib/firmware folder = (lib/firmware/RTL8192E)
Install 3 ".img" files from http://rapidshare.com/files/300697346... into /lib/firmware/RTL8192E
Reboot, enjoy.

It's kind of a PITA to get the file so if you have some patience email me and I'll send the tiny file to you. (murig@verizon.net) I'm always checking my email "

I know JC is trying to help but in the mean time try the above, it works. And yes a have a Samsung N130

And if you want to show text and icons on the toolbars position the pointer on the top bar and right click. Choose "Customize", then in the window that opens move down to where it says: Show:" then select "Icons and Text"

try this in a terminal, sudo nautilus --browser
then try to create the folder.
