A comment on the question "Is a street intersection a legit venue?" in foursquare:
The thread isn't hopping, Nicholas. It pretty much died out a month ago. – Meredith, on March 09, 2010 23:08

For what it's worth, I just checked and the only venues waiting for merge are all locked (by Foursquare on behalf of the venue owners, usually). If you want to send in some more, I'll keep an eye on Vancouver. – Meredith, on February 23, 2010 03:31

To me, this is kind of like putting glue in the sandbox. Sure, you can make cool sculptures with it, but you're still messing with everybody else's fun. Not cool, IMO. – Meredith, on February 15, 2010 22:57

Sure. The cross street field doesn't actually do anything to the listing location, so you can put whatever you want there. I've done it exactly as you describe. – Meredith, on February 08, 2010 19:24

Elliott isn't actually an employee of Foursquare. He's a forum moderator, but GetSatisfaction hasn't released their "helper" role yet, so Elliott gets tagged as an employee. – Meredith, on January 29, 2010 14:39
Meredith replied on January 26, 2010 17:14 to the problem "Blank venues" in foursquare:
The Android app estimates the address; I once added a venue and the auto-address was "1000-1099 New York Ave" - which was right, I was at about 10th and New York. This is FAR more useful than putting in no address at all. Did the iPhone app have this behavior previously?
Also, only SU1+ can go back and correct the address later. So all the "standard" users who are adding these address-less locations do so with impunity, while the SUs run around tracking down these places. Any time I see a venue without an address, I always use the map and Google to estimate where the venue is, and I update it.
No address = very bad.

A comment on the idea "Style guide for superusers" in foursquare:
Fair enough; I actually have an Android phone myself, I don't use the SMS service. But having the location in the title doesn't HURT non-SMS users, so it's perfectly easy to take care of the problem SMS users are having - just allow locations in venue titles. Problem solved, nobody else hurt. – Meredith, on January 24, 2010 21:05

How is that relevant, Stargazer? Foursquare provides an SMS service for American users. If they're going to provide the service, it should be fully functional. The fact that it doesn't work at ALL in other countries has no relevance to HOW it works in the US. – Meredith, on January 24, 2010 20:57
Meredith replied on January 21, 2010 21:29 to the problem "I commute - Am I a Cheater ?" in foursquare:
Wow, you people actually have connectivity for your whole commute?! ;)
Seriously though, checking into each station as you pass through it is kind of a dick move. If you don't step off the train, you're not even technically AT the station. You're on the train, which can itself be a venue (like flights are venues), but you're not in the station.

I've seen at least one instance where people have taken your comments as "the company's" viewpoint. I know you're just a moderator, but I think most people don't! Hopefully this will be released soon. Thanks a million, Thor! – Meredith, on January 18, 2010 04:11

I *think* SU3s can delete venues, but I'm not sure. – Meredith, on January 17, 2010 23:02

Meredith shared an idea in Get Satisfaction on January 17, 2010 02:52:
Add a role for people to help manage the forumsI'd like to see a "helper" status. Currently, the only way very active forums can get help from outsiders is if they are marked as employees. This misrepresents people as being employees, when really the only responsibility they have is to help mark things solved and so forth.
Site members expect people with a green badge to be able to help with all problems, so it is probably bothersome for these people too - they are being asked to help with things they have no power over. Another role would be helpful!
