John Reilly replied on March 18, 2010 18:48 to the question "Connecting to TRMS SX2 Via Mac Connect To" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hi Chris,
Hmm, to be honest, it's tough for us to know what the problem could be, since we don't have the details on how your network is configured. Everyone's network is a little bit different. :) But here's a couple things to try.
You said the Cablecast SX was switched to have a static IP address? Did your networking/IT department create the external static address for it? Often times they will create an external static IP that gets routed to an internal-only LAN IP address. What address are you using when you try to connect to it from your mac? I'd try using the internal LAN address if possible, generally that's the correct one to use if you're on the same network.
If the Cablecast SX server only has a static external address now, is it possible that the firewall on the server was turned on as a safety measure? If so, the firewall may be blocking your connection attempts. Perhaps look into opening the specific ports that you need to connect.
Again, these are just guesses, as we don't have any insight into your specific network setup. But maybe this could lead you down the right path?

John Reilly replied on March 18, 2010 18:35 to the question "Why cant I get a FULL SCREEN PREVIEW when creating a new message in Carousel?" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Thanks William, those screenshots are perfect. What you're seeing is definitely not the intended behavior.
What's troubling is that when I edit templates on our systems here, it appears to scale them just fine; I can see the entire bulletin. So, we've gotta do a bit more investigation to see what's causing it.
It looks like you're using Internet Explorer? I can't quite tell which version, is it 7 or 8? And is that Windows Vista as your OS?
Also, could you try the same thing using a different browser (like Firefox or Google Chrome) and see what happens? I want to narrow down if it's a browser bug with IE or not.
And a final question for now, Which version of Carousel are you running? 6.0.0 or 6.0.1?
Thanks William, we'll get this figured out. :)

Hi MMSD-TV,
Thanks for the feedback. I agree, if you have a LOT of bulletins to manage in one zone, it can get pretty difficult.
There are a couple options to make it a bit easier though...
1) Take advantage of bulletin groups. If you have several bulletins that are related, you can group them together and treat the whole group as a single entity (reordering, deleting, etc).
2) You don't always have to drag a bulletin around... If you click once on the preview thumbnail, it should turn blue. Then, when you move your mouse around, a blue 'move here' bar should appear just as if you were actually dragging the bulletin. Single clicking again on one of the blue bars should move the bulletin to that spot. This can make it a bit easier to move things around without having to actually drag.
3) Bulletin housekeeping. If you have lots of bulletins to remove at once, you can use the housekeeping feature to delete bulletins based on some criteria... For example, all saved bulletins, all bulletins by user X, etc. Housekeeping is covered in chapter 18.4 of the 6.0.0 Carousel manual.
I'm not sure if these options will help you or not, but I find they come in handy when dealing with lot of bulletins.
Thanks again for the feedback.

Hi Shaun...
5.3.3 is actually the FrontDoor version.. the Carousel version number can be found in the "about" link after you've clicked through into Carousel. Here are a couple screenshots: http://gsfn.us/t/lpf

John Reilly replied on March 17, 2010 18:22 to the question "Why cant I get a FULL SCREEN PREVIEW when creating a new message in Carousel?" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hi William,
Is it possible to post a screenshot of the behavior you're seeing?
Also, when you say 'full screen,' are you asking to see the entire Carousel channel on the preview? The template editor is designed to only edit a template for one particular zone at a time, so you only see one zone in the preview. If you have a channel with a seamless zone design, the template editor preview may well look like it is being cut off, but it's actually just displaying the template for the one zone on the overall channel.

Hi Alexander,
There's a link to the Cablecast Overview brochure on the Cablecast product page. On the last page of that pdf there's a product matrix for the various Cablecast servers.
I think this might be what you're looking for. Lemme know if this helps.

A comment on the discussion "DVD import for mac" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Just got the answer that the VOD server will only convert MPEG 2, DVCAM, and DVCPRO into the streaming format, so I guess h.264 won't work in this case.
MPEG2 is probably your best bet... In the back of the Cablecast manual there should be a chart that lists the specifics of the video and audio formats that are accepted. You could also use our FixMpeg utility which should help generate compliant audio.

A comment on the discussion "DVD import for mac" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hmm, it should definitely work for playing back the video, but I'm not 100% sure about the VOD re-encoding it to the streaming WMV format. I'm assuming it'll work, as long as you have an h.264 codec installed so it can decode it. I'll ask around to find out for sure. --John – John Reilly, on February 25, 2010 20:19

There's a list of some universities using Carousel on our website here: http://www.trms.com/signage/carousel/...
You could probably also shoot our sales team an email asking for a more extensive list... sales@trms.com
I hope this is at least a good start. :-)
