Here's a shout out to Ray, who has been such an incredible part of our GSFN community over the years, we just recently promoted him from customer to employee! :-)
He's always gone above and beyond by posting detailed, personalized replies to questions and issues. Our customers love him, and we're extremely happy to have him on our team.
Thanks, Ray!
John Reilly replied on January 24, 2010 20:50 to the idea "Make the Process of Assigning Zones Easier/Faster" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hey Megan. :-)
When you mention assigning zones to users, are you referring to giving them access rights/roles to those zones from inside FrontDoor?
If so, I hear you. There's a lot of clicking involved the way things work now. One way you could make the process go faster is by creating a Zone Tag for the 8 zones, then use that tag when assigning a role to a user, instead of assigning the same role for each of the 8 individual zones. This effectively "groups" all the zones together within the tag, so you can assign a role to multiple zones at once.
Example: if you're setting up 8 new zones, and you want me to have control over them, you could tag each of those zones with "John" (or something similar) when you're creating them, then, when you head over to FrontDoor, you can just assign me the Admin role for the John zone tag, and I would have admin access to all 8 of the zones.
Depending on your situation, this may or may not work for you... Just trying to come up with some workarounds.

Hi Jeff, we just recently revamped our entire website, and it looks like we copied everything over to the new site.... except that particular video! We'll hopefully have it up sometime tomorrow. Thanks for the catch! -John – John Reilly, on January 22, 2010 02:27
John Reilly replied on January 14, 2010 19:05 to the update "Yes, our notification emails look a little funny right now" in Get Satisfaction:
You guys use Mad Mimi for your email newsletters, right?
At the most recent RubyConf, Gregg Pollack gave a talk about using Mad Mimi as a replacement for the built-in ActionMailer. (He redid parts of the talk as a screencast.)
Seemed like a fantastic idea to me. Just send them the dynamic bits of the email in a hash, and use their templates for html formatting (which can then be updated anytime, without re-deploying your app).
Just throwing that out there. I'm excited to try this technique in a couple apps.

John Reilly replied on January 13, 2010 00:41 to the question "What is the proper order of installation?" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hey Jonathan,
If I remember correctly, you're upgrading your SX from 4.7 to 4.8, right? If that's the case, we have a guide that walks you though the process (that particular upgrade path is a bit tricky).
You can download the guide as a PDF here: http://www.trms.com.s3.amazonaws.com/...
I'm hoping that might have some answers for you.

John Reilly replied on January 11, 2010 15:44 to the problem "My SX4 freezes and sometimes has no audio" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Hey Jonathan,
I'm really sorry about the frustration. The good news is, as Ray mentioned, the issues you're describing should be fixed by upgrading to Cablecast 4.8. This is a free update from Cablecast 4.7, regardless of whether you have a current System Assurance plan.
To get the update, send an email to support@trms.com. It would probably be helpful if you include a link to this discussion so they can have a bit of background info as well.
Let us know if this helps!
