A comment on the idea "Lost - run its course?" in Noticings:
"hello little fella" (aka faces in inanimate objects) might also be an appropriate group-inspired theme... – britta, on February 09, 2010 12:00

Yeah, maps could be fun because it's not tooooo easy (if you exclude things like route maps at bus/subway stations). I can think of two signs within a few miles of me that have globes on them. I think birds are too transient to be good noticings.
Publicly-accessible fruit trees would be fun noticings in California, but maybe not so much in colder climates.
Ghost signs? Phony animals?

Ah, looks like this is fixed now.

I'm hoping for some new rules or updates in the future too! Maybe something like noticing maps in the world, or mosaics/tiles? Those are often pretty interesting.

Looks like yesterday's points got double countedOn today's Dashboard, yesterday's (Sunday's) noticings all look like this:
"A Snowy Road by -walsh- scored 80 for being noticed, being the first noticing in the neighbourhood, being noticed, and being the first noticing in the neighbourhood."
"Beach scene with packing tape by Keith Bolland scored 20 for being noticed and being noticed."
Double points!-

A comment on the question "Geo-tagged, public pictures not posting to noticings site" in Noticings:
It's often helpful to add the Flickr photo URLs so people can poke around and see what might be wrong. :) – britta, on January 16, 2010 18:40

Hmm, it looks to me like these aren't geotagged...maybe you have the geotags set to private or friends-only? – britta, on January 16, 2010 18:38
A comment on the problem "did my noticing get noticed and then rejected, or does the uploader still not work?!" in Noticings:
Thinking about this a little more, "publicly visible" on the rules page seems to just mean "the photo has to be publicly visible", so the rules page doesn't really specify that "the subject of the photo has to be publicly visible too". This is clarified on the blog in the bit I quoted above, but I think it should be clarified on the rules page too, because it's central to the game, at least in my interpretation. :) – britta, on January 13, 2010 20:14-

Hmm, there was a similar discussion a while back about Stemming the potential flood of dirge (aka low-quality noticings). Part of the staff response: "In the meantime: the best way to help stem any 'dirge' that might set in is to upload really 'good' noticings; play the game in a gentlemanly manner, even if that means not getting as many points as you'd like."
In some cases I might even comment on the photo with something positive like "it would have been cool to zoom in on that more so I could see the details!" or "it'd be nice to angle that so it would have some more context" etc. (while being aware that some people are playing with cameraphones and other not-so-fancy equipment).

I think the wording about this could be clarified on the site, but my understanding is that they do mean for the subject of the photo to be publicly visible... "Another one of the house rules is that your photo has to be of something, and that something has to be visible to others."
So I would say that the inside of a coffee shop is probably fair game, but the inside of a house probably isn't.
(And if you want to see if your photo got to the Noticings site but was removed, you might be able to copy the Flickr photo number, from a URL like this: flickr.com/photos/USERNAME/NUMBER/ -- and paste it into a Noticings URL like this: noticin.gs/noticings/NUMBER -- if it got to the site, I think it'll show up there but with a note that says "removed".)
