From the description of the problem and the workaround you have found, I'd say the main problem is some kind of bug in your wordpress excerpt making code.
Oh and a little bit of explanation: Zemanta is not a wordpress widget, it does not render related articles 'on the fly'. Whatever you choose in Zemanta is "baked into the post" as part of regular content.
If you are doing excerpts and similar for the front page, Zemanta has no way at all to influence how that is done. It is purely excerpt making code that does it.
I have to say your workaround sounds very strange, but hey, if it works, great! :)

Zemanta cannot influence how your CMS does excerpts.
To achieve what you want you have a few options:
- don't put links at the beginning of your post, so they won't be in an excerpt
- find a better/different plugin/software to do excerpts that will be able to do what you want from it (cleanse links depending on presentation)
- don't overdo with links
Hope this helps.

Do you have self-hosted Wordpress? In that case just install the server-side plug-in and it will correctly remember its location!
Hope that helps?
[unfortunately it is not possible for plugin to remember its location when working as firefox/IE/chrome extension since Wordpress has weak support for integrating third party functionality in that way]

Hi,
Annapolis blog was added to our "global pool" today! This means it will be recommended to all Zemanta users.
However in order to make My sources show up your content you have to make sure you have registered in Zemanta preferences, and added a blog to your sources (this is different than submitting your blog for inclusion in a global pool).
When you do that, please let me know if it works for you!
