Yes, our notification emails look a little funny right now
Our development team is working on this issue as I write this. It's a top priority to get this fixed as soon as possible. As soon as we can verify that our solution is working, we will update you all here. In the meantime, we apologize for the ugly-looking emails.

Inappropriate?Hi Amy:
Would posting email headers of email from GS that is plaintext (as opposed to HTML email which is what it's supposed to be) be helpful? Please let us know how we can help debug and fix the problem.
I’m happy
-
Thanks, Roland. I'll ask Thor. -
Inappropriate? The problem seems sporadic as about half our emails are coming through formatted correctly and the others are broken.

Some of your emails are coming through with the code markup showing..
I’m confident you'll fix it right up!
-
Thanks, Laura, we're seeing that, too. We're getting close to getting to the bottom of this. A very pernicious little bug. -
Sorry, I swear I searched for a matching topic before posting, really I did! -
Haha. No worries! My title on this topic is not the most useful or searchable. :) -
Inappropriate? All emails from the time I replied to this topic before lunch up until Laura Thomas's comment at 2:10p.m. Pacfic ("Sorry I swear I ....") were in plaintext as opposed to HTML email
I’m happy
-
Thanks, Roland. We've got some developers debugging right now. -
Inappropriate? An update: apparently this is caused by a known (but hidden) bug in the latest version of our programming framework, Ruby on Rails 2.35. Painful to say, we have not deployed a fix for this yet, but we're hoping to do so ASAP tomorrow now that we have some tips from others who have run into this problem.
If you're interested in the hornet's nest we inherited with our recent upgrade, you can follow the conversation here:

Inappropriate?Hello,
Since a couple of days, all the notification emails sent by Get Satisfaction only contain the HTML version with a "Content-Type: plain/text" header. Therefore, the HTML markup is visible in all the notifications.
Your emails were previously sent in two versions, text and HTML, both with the correct Content-Type header, which was working fine.
Thanks.

Notification emails contain HTML markup in plain/text. -
Inappropriate? When I get emails starting roughly 24 hours ago they come thru as HTML, but in plaintext (if you know what I mean).
So it has the HTML code, but I see the code. It's not coming through in my email as HTML formatted text.
Haven't changed anything in my email (I use Google Apps / GMail).
Entire original email, with headers, attached:

Inappropriate? You guys use Mad Mimi for your email newsletters, right?
At the most recent RubyConf, Gregg Pollack gave a talk about using Mad Mimi as a replacement for the built-in ActionMailer. (He redid parts of the talk as a screencast.)
Seemed like a fantastic idea to me. Just send them the dynamic bits of the email in a hash, and use their templates for html formatting (which can then be updated anytime, without re-deploying your app).
Just throwing that out there. I'm excited to try this technique in a couple apps.

I LOVE this idea. As Thor says below, particularly for our welcome emails, order confirmations, etc. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Good idea, John. We've actually been talking about doing this for a a subset of our emails (our welcome mails in particular). We use Sendgrid for the vast majority of our email delivery and love it.

Inappropriate?email from Get Satisfaction is not being parsed, as of middle of last week ... it is coming in as raw HTML

HTML emails from Get Satisfaction not parsed.
I’m not sure why this started happening

Thanks for the merge. I looked for a matching thread, but didn't see this one. -
You're welcome. I didn't help matters by giving this topic a funny title. :) -
Inappropriate? In the last week or so, I've noticed that any emails I receive from Get Satisfaction in my Gmail account are all HTML code. They aren't displaying properly. Other HTML emails I receive from other places are fine.

Inappropriate? The past few days my Get Satisfaction e-mail notifications have not been formatting properly in my GMail account. I get all of the HTML markup instead. I looked for a Text-Only e-mail option for my account (I thought there was one some time ago), but I can't find the setting for that.
A colleague of mine who uses GMail is reporting the same behavior, and other HTML e-mails format properly for us.

Inappropriate?Just FYI the notification for ^^^ this post ^^^ came through perfectly.
Looks like you fixed it. -
Inappropriate? We put a fix in that seems to have decreased the issue, but it hasn't completely eliminated it. We're working on part 2 of the fix now.
-
Inappropriate?yeah that one didn't come through right..

Inappropriate?I used to receive email notices from Get Satisfaction that told me there was a change to a previous post I had responded to or a new post for the company I work for..... Cutting to the chase, I am still getting an email, however I used to be able to follow a link that would take me to the post. Now I redirected to random dashboards of those who are participating in the topic. Hoping I can go back to the old way?

I’m confused

Inappropriate?Hello,
Good to see that you'll are already working on this. We are currently getting the emails with HTML tags in them.
Thanks
-
Inappropriate?I created a GetSatisfaction community for my company recently and now have people coming through the site. I get these email messages (I'm on gmail) every time someone posts, which is great. But the emails are laced with html tags and impossible to read:
I can only assume my customers are also seeing this junk. Can GetSatisfaction fix this problem? I shouldn't have to do anything special to get read-able email messages.

Inappropriate?I have this problem too and I wish I didn't... It seemed to start right after I used the Get Satisfaction "Add an image" interface to upload some .jpg files, but perhaps that was a coincidence?
Developers can following link below to to navigate to the Topic where I encountered the problem, then scroll through till you see the entry with the .jpg stuff, to see what happened.

I’m unhappy, I don't want to deal with this but I have to.

Thanks for the additional information, Kathy. We, too, are very distressed by this bug and working diligently to solve it. -
Inappropriate? After two and a half days of sheer tension in the office, and we know frustration on your part, we think we think we have solved this once and for all. Please let us know if you see the problem anymore.
Unfortunately, issues like this are the occasional price of progress. In upgrading our underlying software, and improving our infrastructure we spawned a problem that was very hard to diagnose. The good news is that we now get to return to improving the product!
Thanks for your patience, and my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience.
I’m breathing again
-
Inappropriate? If it comes through with the HTML info, but in plaintext, and you really want to see it in proper HTML format, copy the entire email into notepad from the very top to the very bottom, then save as All Files, and call it something like "Get Satisfaction email" making sure you put .html on the end so it becomes "Get Satisfaction Email.html" and making sure its being saved as All files and not text files. Once saved double click to open in your internet browser and it should display in proper HTML format. This is the easiest way to make it "readable" if it still isn't fixed or if this happens again. Hope this helps some people.
-
Inappropriate? This started a few days ago, and it affects some (about 50%) of the email notifications I get from GetSatisfaction: in the emails I get them as HTML displayed as text (as if I'm looking at the HTML source of the email rather than the rendering of it). So there are all kinds of < p > tags and < a > tags and so on.

Inappropriate?I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who offered troubleshooting help on this one. I believe this is now fixed, but please do let us know if you continue to see any HTML email problems. I know how frustrating it is to read them all jumbled up like that, and we sincerely appreciate your patience while we worked through this.
I’m happy again
-
Thanks for the heads up, Monique. We just fixed this (we think), so let us know if you see any additional incidents. -
This looks to be fixed today. Thanks GS Team
