How's Dropbox? feature
Feature: How's Dropbox?
Dropbox used to ask folks a simple question "How's Dropbox?". I want to say that sometimes they also asked "Is Dropbox ready for primetime?" (or something like that). They showed this while Dropbox was still in beta.
What's cool about that is that it required very little work on the users' part because it wasn't a 5 min survey so they probably got a ton of data (lots of "awesomes" and lots of "needs work"). You could track those numbers over time and get a good feel from your users (not you) about how they feel about your product. If you standardized the question then you (and we) could use it as a (not the) measure of readiness to leave beta and go live.
Could be a GS widget.
And then make the data accessible by API =)

The company has this under consideration.

Inappropriate?Yeah. This is good. Great idea, Adam. I am a big fan of this kind of approach.
This could be pretty valuable in this beta situation, as you describe, to help companies figure out when they're ready to shed the beta monicker.
We haven't done any polls, but I like this kind of poll because it's super simple, especially if you just keep it to "How's [Product]? In fact, I think I only like yes/no polls at this point. Loving this more and more as I think about it. Definitely sharing this idea with the team here.
I’m seriously impressed with this idea

Agreed on the yes/no poll. Getting into anything more than that gets hairy (where do you stop?), but if it is just a thumbs up/down or "Awesome"/"Needs work" then that gives you some real data. Just be sure to put that data in the API. We want to use it in BigBrassBand =) -
Eric - any update to share? -
Boy, I wish that I could say that this was moving forward because it's just such a great idea, but it's not currently on our near-term roadmap, sadly. -
No worries - keep up the great work at GS. -
Inappropriate?I would LOVE to have this for my web app. I already have a Feedback tab that comes to GetSatisfaction, this would be a perfect addition!
Adam, great idea.
I’m excited and hopeful
